LFUMC Music Ministry Vision Statement

We will sing and sing purely, for our hearts and mouths so want to be instruments of peace and prayer. We ring rightly, for the knell is sounded for justice and assurance that Jesus Christ is King. We play and play for ever and ever, amen!, for we know that these sounds are not our sounds, but the sounds of God in a noisy world. They calm us, inspire us, move us, lead us to tears and to praises and shouts. And they are all good. Most importantly, we do these all together for in numbers we raise a ruckus for God and bring others closer by being a bit of God’s voice in this world.

It is our mission as overseers of the music ministry to:

  • be wise stewards in the careful and gracious utilization of the musical gifts with which God has blessed our congregation.
  • have an aesthetic sensibility in choosing music that is the best we can offer in terms of what is appropriate for worship and in terms of matching individual and group talents to musical styles and selections, whether they be classical, traditional, or contemporary. It is our charge, then, to inspire authentic praise and worship in the participants of our music ministry, allowing each one to function as a worship leader, helping other congregants in lifting praise and prayer to God.
  • desire to establish a balance between the organization of the presentation and the flexibility of following where the Holy Spirit leads.
