Missions & Outreach

Mission work is our joining with God in work of building God's kingdom of justice and mercy on earth. As we engage in mission work, putting our faith into action, we grow as disciples of Christ.

Liverpool First United Methodist church offers many opportunities to serve in missions globally, regionally, locally and in our home church. Some missions are hands-on while others may simply be supported by your financial giving.

We encourage everyone to engage in mission work of some kind, for the sake of building the Kingdom of God and growing in Christian discipleship through service with others.

There are so many opportunities to use your talents & gifts to serve in Liverpool First United Methodist Church. These are just a few!

Opportunities to Serve at LFUMC

Sunday Morning Greeters - 9:00, 10:30 am

Be the first "smile of LFUMC" people encounter on Sunday morning. Represent God's welcome to guest and friends old and new at the church door, direct them toward Discover Zone children's programs, Sanctuary, Fellowship Hell, restrooms, etc.

Sunday Morning Ushers - 9:30 and 11:00 am

Share in the ministry of welcoming the stranger as well as friends, distributing programs, helping find seats, large print bulletins, hearing assistance, hymnals in Braille, etc.

Sunday Morning Hospitality

Share in the ministry of serving others following Sunday church services by offering refreshments and a smile to members and guests of our church.

Children's Ministry - Sundays 9:15 & 11:00 and Wednesday 6:30   (additional opportunities exist throughout the year)

Sunday School & DELTA

Every minute you give matters in the life a child! Help monthly, weekly, or occasionally.  Lead a class, assist a teacher, welcome families, be a hall shepherd.  There are additional opportunities on Wednesday Evenings during the school year for DELTA as well as VBS during 1 week of evenings in July.

Nursery & Child Care

Assist in our loving nursery! We have opportunities for folks to serve the youngest of our church. We offer nursery care at both our 9:30 & 11:00 services. Choose one or both to serve. We offer a 8 week rotation schedule, although you can serve more often if desired!

Occasionally we also offer events & programs throughout the year that require us to offer child care for families attending the events. If you have a heart for children this is a wonderful opportunity to serve!

Call Karen Gloyd, at 315-457-5180. Safe Sanctuary Policies apply.

Prayer Partners - Mondays, 3:00 pm

Join others in lifting to God in prayer the concerns raised in Sunday worship. Help build God's kingdom through intercession. Email prayer chain also available.

Congregational Caregivers

Visiting the sick and infirm is a Christian ministry one can take up at any age. Share Christian conversations and prayer with our homebound members and friends who can no longer join us on Sundays. Contact Pastor Penny Hart through the church office.

Prayer Quilt Ministry - Tuesdays 10 am
We make lap-sized patchwork quilts to bring beauty and comfort to members and friends of LFUMC who are injured or ill. Quilters of all abilities are welcome!

Knit/Crochet with Prayerful Threads

Gather to knit and crochet baby blankets, hats, and scarves as tangible reminders of God's love and our prayers for newly baptized children, children of Teen MOPS, and people in need of the Rescue Missions' open arms. We meet twice a month on Sunday afternoons from 2:00-4:00 pm.

Teen MOPS Dinner Preparation

MOPS stands for Mothers of Pre-Schoolers. A group of teenaged MOPS meet at LFUMC on Tuesday afternoons twice a month. Providing a healthy supper for their meeting is a way of caring for these mothers and their children.

Project Christina

Help comfort a child in crisis.  We collect for Project Christina new stuffed toys, children's books and reusable child friendly tote bags. Be double the blessing by purchasing the $5 stuffed toy at Kohl's where proceeds go to the Golisano's children's hospital and donate the stuffed toy to Project Christina. The donations are given to the Onondaga County S.S. Foster Care Division to be given to the children when they are removed from their home. The red donation box is in the Fellowship Hall.
