Leader:  Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

People:  The Lord is near to all who call upon him, to all that call in truth.

Leader:  He fulfills the hearts of those who seek him.

People:  He hears their cry and will save them.

Leader:  “Where two or three are gathered together in my name,” says the Lord Jesus,

People:  “There am I in the midst of them.”

Leader:  This is the confidence we have in him.

People:  Having these promises, let us draw near to the throne of grace in full assurance of faith.

OPENING PRAYER

Lord God, you call us your children in Christ Jesus, and that is who we are. We come to you now with child-like faith asking for your favor and touch in our lives. Prepare our hearts for this time of worship, and help our hearts to respond to you in faith and lifestyles of obedience. In the precious name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

CHORAL ANTHEM

His Love Never Fails  by Pamela Martin & Craig Courtney

THE WRITTEN WORD First John 3:1-3; Acts 1:6-8

1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  – NIV

QUESTIONS OF LIFE AND FAITH

 •  How much does God love us according to 1 John 3:1? What does that mean?

•   What can the believer eventually expect to be?

•   What are we to do in the meantime to grow in that direction according to 1 John 3:3?

•   What does that mean on a practical, daily basis?

•   According to Acts 1, what is the believers primary purpose in this world? How do we do that?

BENEDICTION Go Now In Peace by Don Besig

Go now in peace. Never be afraid. God will go with you each hour of every day. Go now in faith, steadfast, strong and true. Know He will guide you in all you do. Go now in love, and show you believe. Reach out to others so all the world can see. God will be there watching from above. Go now in peace, in faith, and in love.
