Announcement of New Pastor made on March 18, 2019
Bishop Mark Webb intends to appoint Pastor Bob Vizthum to pastor at Liverpool First United Methodist Church. His appointment begins July 1.
Pastor Bob sent a message to the Liverpool First UMC saying that he will pray for our church and for all of us in the upcoming months as we begin our ministry together. He hopes to get to know all of you and your dreams for this church. His biography is listed below:
Robert A. (Bob) Vizthum
Bob Vizthum was born and raised in the city of Detroit, Michigan. His family moved outside of Detroit to the small town of Stockbridge, Michigan, in 1971, where Bob attended High School. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1979 with a degree in Business Administration. He worked as a branch manager of Ann Arbor bank and Trust Company, Ann Arbor, Michigan, before taking a civilian position as an analyst with the US Navy – first in Philadelphia, PA, then in Mechanicsburgh, PA.
Bob was married to Eileen Joyce in August of 1981. Eileen was a native of Harrisburg, PA. She went to the University of Michigan as a student and Bob and she met in 1980 while both were working at Ann Arbor Bank. They were married for 35 years. Eileen was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in September of 2015 and passed away on May 29, 2016. She was employed for years as an Administrative Assistant to three different District Superintendents of the Susquehanna Conference of the UM Church.
Involvement in a United Methodist Church in the mid 1980s kindled a desire to explore a call to full time ministry for Bob. The church, Colonial Park UMC, Harrisburg, gave Bob many opportunities to discover and use the spiritual gifts God has given him. With the support of the church community as well as family and friends, Bob, Eileen and their two children moved to Wilmore, Kentucky, in 1989, to attend seminary. He received his Masters of Divinity degree from Asbury Seminary and has served five different parishes in Bloomsburg, Altoona, and York, PA.
Bob’s daughter, Jennifer, is a graduate of Syracuse University, 2005. She met her husband Matt while attending Syracuse. He is also a 2005 graduate of SU. There were married in 2005 and settled down in the Syracuse area. Jen taught at VVS High School outside of Utica as a history teacher for 8 years. She is now in her 6th year as a history teacher at Baker High School in Baldwinsville. Matt is a Regional Sales Manager for optical services company Alcon. His region spreads from Buffalo to Albany, and down into Pennsylvania. Jen, Matt, and their two children, Avery (11) and Trey (8), reside in Baldwinsville.
Bob’s son, Jim, is a graduate of Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC, 2007. He then served in the US Navy for 6 years as an Arabic linguist. He and his wife, Ann, now reside in Brighton, Michigan. Jim is a doctoral student at the University of Michigan as well as being a Teaching Assistant in the Arabic linguistics program. Ann is an Assistant US Attorney in the city of Flint, Michigan, having graduated from Ohio State University with an engineering degree and Harvard University with a law degree.
Bob strongly believes in the role of the local church to grow believers/disciples who will then impact their families, communities, and the world with the transforming love of Jesus Christ. He looks very much forward to being with you in ministry for the Lord Jesus!
