HYMN #77 How Great Thou Art

OPENING PRAYER

Loving and caring God, we come this morning seeking wisdom and guidance for our lives. Open us to your words of life and love and truth. May we proclaim with our tongues what we know in our hearts. In this time of worship, help us more fully understand what it means to truly be a disciple, a follower of the way of Jesus, a follower of the path of wisdom. May the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts be acceptable to you, our rock and our redeemer. Amen.

Bind us together, Lord, bind us together with cords that cannot be broken

Bind us together, Lord, bind us together, bind us together in love.

There is only one God; there is only one King;

There is only one Body; that is why we sing. (chorus repeat)

THE WRITTEN WORD Psalm 48. 1–3, 8–14

The Lord is great. He is really worthy of praise. Praise him in the city of our God, his holy mountain. Mount Zion is high and beautiful. It brings joy to everyone on earth. Mount Zion is like the highest parts of Mount Zaphon. It is the city of the Great King. God is there to keep it safe. He has shown himself to be like a fort to the city. What we heard we have also seen. We have seen it in the city of the Lord who rules over all. We have seen it in the city of our God. We have heard and seen that God makes her secure forever. Selah God, inside your temple we think about your faithful love. God, your fame reaches from one end of the earth to the other. In the same way, people praise you from one end of the earth to the other. You use your power to do what is right. Mount Zion is filled with joy. The villages of Judah are glad. That’s because you judge fairly. Walk around Zion. Go all around it. Count its towers. Think carefully about its outer walls. Just look at how safe it is! Then you can tell its people that God keeps them safe. This God is our God for ever and ever. He will be our guide to
the very end.

QUESTIONS OF FAITH & LIFE

  • Have you found God’s peace amidst the storms of your life?
  • How have you found Jesus leading you?
  • What has Jesus provided you when life is not going your way?

All:    It will change our whole lives.

One: Go forth with the words of wisdom crying in your ears. Go forth with songs of hope singing in your heart. Know that the One who has called you will always be near you, will always guide and encourage you to walk the path of life. Amen.
