CALL TO WORSHIP

One         At the break of dawn, a bird sings.

All            The long night of darkness is over.

One         The stone is rolled away,

All            The tomb is empty.

One         The sun begins to shine.

All            The Son has risen!

One         It’s a morning of glory,

All            Of love overcoming death,

One         Of women spreading Good News,

All            Of men turning from despair to hope.

One         It’s a morning of joy,

All            For Easter has come again.

One         Hope is reborn,

All            Love is stronger than death,

One         And we lift our voices in song

OPENING PRAYER

Loving God, as the sunrise disclosed the light of the truth of Jesus’ resurrection, shine your light into our lives. Chase away the corners of sadness, expose our fears and bring us to the light of new hope, the dawn of possibility. Open us to your resurrection power that knows no boundaries. Fill us with incredible joy, everlasting peace and unquenchable hope this day and always. In the name of Jesus, the resurrected One, Amen.

Majesty, worship His majesty! Unto Jesus be all glory, honor and praise
Majesty, kingdom authority, flow from His throne unto His own,

His anthem raise! So exalt lift up on high the name of Jesus.
Magnify, come glorify, Christ Jesus the King.
Majesty, worship His majesty! Jesus who died, now glorified, King of all kings!

THE WRITTEN WORD        John 11. 17–27

17 On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. 18 Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem, 19 and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. 20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home. 21 “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” 23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” 27 “Yes, Lord,” she told him, “I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.”

SPIRITUAL CONVERSATION Do You Believe This?         Dr. Brian Homan

AFFIRMATION

We believe in the risen Christ. Like the disciples who were amazed at what they saw, so are we amazed at what we experience. We see the face of Christ in children’s smiles, in the eyes of our families. We hear the voice of Christ in the stillness of a clear night, in the way our friends call our name, in the song that brings tears to our eyes. We know the touch of Christ in every warm embrace. We taste the presence of Christ in bread that is blessed, broken and shared. We feel the power of Christ in standing up to injustice, in reaching out to help another, in building strong communities of welcome and support. We feel the love of Christ when another wipes away our tears, takes us by the hand and leads us through the valleys and shadows to a new place. We believe the risen Christ. We know the risen Christ. We are blessed.
