Christmas Eve

PRELUDE                           Ding Dong! Merrily on High, Arr. by Joel Raney

(Lighting the altar candles)

One:   In the midst of the darkness of this world and our lives

All:     A light has been revealed and a hope given to those who would receive it.

One:  The hope comes surprisingly as a vulnerable child, yet not an ordinary child.

All:     For He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,                         Prince of Peace.

One:   As a child grows and matures so must God’s Child grow with us and fill the                       world with His light.

All:     Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will            reign over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and

righteousness from that time on and forever.

One:  We celebrate tonight the Child who is the Light of the world.

All:     We receive Him to live by His truth, to chase the darkness from our world and to build            the Kingdom of our Lord.

One:   We celebrate the victory that is already ours, for the zeal of the Lord Almighty            will accomplish what we hope in Christ for.

ANTHEM                                             An Antiphonal Noel — Joel Raney                              Chancel Choir

Wesley Bell Ringers & Alleluia Choir

In the cold and darkness of winter we are painfully aware of the struggles and brokenness of our world. We long for healing, for wholeness, but it remains an elusive dream we grow weary chasing after. We thank you, O God, that in due time you sent your Son following eons of preparation. We praise you that He came as our Savior to provide us hope when we thought there was none left. We celebrate His birth tonight to remind ourselves of your evolving plan and your promise of His return to complete what we are incapable of doing fully, that of righting the world. Renew our faded hope and fill us with renewed dreams so we might be strengthened in our perseverance to bear the light of Jesus where we live. Amen!
