CALL TO WORSHIP

One:     See what love the Father has given us,

All:     that we should be called the children of God.

One:     You are my sons and daughters, this day I have begotten you.

All:     See what love the Father has given us.

One:     As many as received him, to them he gave power to become the children of God.

All:     See what love the Father has given us.

One:      Though we wander off and leave home to forge our own path God waits forour return, hopes for our return, and runs with open arms when we are in sight to welcome and restore us. See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called the children of God.

OPENING PRAYER

O God, whom we affectionately call Father, but whom we should know as Dad, you have made us and long to be our Provider and Protector. We have taken your gifts and sought our own way in life only to seek your help when things go wrong or begged from you when we want something desperately for ourselves. We look at your intentions with suspicion of control rather than help in securing the best for us. We often look at you in fear of your discipline when it is given only for our good. We gather to remember the blessings you have given us just because you love us; to worship that love and learn of that love so it might become our way. We want to be close and ask only that you reveal yourself to us in our prayers, our songs and our attentiveness to your Word. Come near, speak to us so we might know you are always with us for we give this time that could be given to other pursuits for no other reason but to know you and be with you. Amen!

QUESTIONS OF LIFE & FAITH

How might we fall prey to the same tempting question, Did God really say … ?”

How can something that appears good and beautiful and potentially beneficial be “wrong?”

How easy is it to admit you are wrong?

When have you felt most naked and exposed before God?

Where in your life is “the serpent” seemingly alive and well?
