CALL TO WORSHIP

L:   Welcome! We are gathered here to celebrate the great promise Jesus made          just before he ascended to heaven.

P:    Our hearts are ready to receive this good news. What was it?

L:    He promised to send the Spirit of truth to be with us always, reminding us of God’s love.

P:    That’s good news for us at all times: God is with us!

L:    Jesus asked all of his friends to live to reflect and proclaim the power of love of God’s love.

P:    We are numbered among these friends!

L:    Open your hearts today. Hear God’s special word just for you!

P:    Lord, help us to be ready to receive your word and to live in your love. AMEN.

OPENING PRAYER

O Risen Lord, you have conquered the grave. How we need your power to overcome the obstacles we face for living the abundant life you claim for us all. We struggle within ourselves and with the world so burdened with violence, addiction and suffering. We look toward the hope in your promise to be with us and bring to us the power of your Spirit to ascend above the limitations of our experience. We need assurance of your presence and guidance to live the words of challenge you give us of being your witnesses by word and action to this community and to the world. Show yourself in our worship that we might be inspired to greater things than we have known or allowed for ourselves. Amen!
