GREETING & QUESTIONS OF LIFE & FAITH

• What excuses have you heard people give for not following Jesus?

• Have you fully surrendered all things to follow Him?

• Does surrender to Christ mean abandoning all that is good in life?

• What would Jesus ask of you to surrender to follow Him?

PRELUDE Please be in silent reflection as we prepare ourselves for worship. Sonate C‑dur Hob XVI/10 (Moderato) — Joseph Haydn

INTROIT How Great Is Our God

CALL TO WORSHIP (based on Psalm 77)

One: Your ways, God, are perfect and right.

All: No other claim for our allegiance is as worthy a pursuit as you, O God.

One: You are the one who makes things happen.

All: You have shown in your story just what you can do; what you did for your people in the past and now what you did for us through Jesus.

One: When I am filled with doubt, I will once again go over what you have done.

All: I’ll ponder all the things you have accomplished and give a long, loving look at your acts.

One: I will trust you in my time of need believing you can do wonderful things in my life

All: I will abandon my fear and all that claims my heart to follow you. I will not shrink from your call upon my life, for I know you only have good waiting for me and the world.

OUR COMMON PRAYER (unison)

O God, you call us from the ordinary to live extraordinary lives, not in accomplishing great things for which we will be remembered, but in living our lives larger than the world might limit us. You have called us to living with significance and purpose where we can make a positive difference in the lives of others you place in our path. You provide us with hope that what we might do with our gifts and opportunities of service might contribute in some small measure to the transformation of this broken world we live in. Your call is challenging and what it demands is different for each of us, but give us the strength to surrender to your greater plan for our lives that we might know the peace and joy you give by our surrender. Amen!
