CHORAL INTROIT                              O Be Joyful — John Yarrington

CALL TO WORSHIP (based on Psalm 146)

One:    Happy are those whose hope is in God, the maker of heaven and earth–

All:   for God’s faithfulness lasts forever!

One:    God brings justice for the oppressed, and gives food for the hungry. God sets    prisoners free, and opens the eyes of the blind.

All:   God’s faithfulness lasts forever!

One:   God raises up those who have been beaten down. God protects immigrants,

and helps the orphan and the widow.

All:   God’s faithfulness lasts forever!

One:    People of God, sing praise to the One who is your help— for God’s

faithfulness lasts forever!

All:   I will praise the Lord with all my life; I will sing praises to my God as long

  as I live.

Beckoning God, as you moved in the lives of ancient prophets and historic saints, move in our lives. We hear your invitation to journey to unknown territory, to listen for your voice, and to speak your prophetic word of justice, mercy, and peace. Empowered by your Holy Spirit, grant us the courage we need to trust, journey, listen, speak, and accept your commission to live as your faithful servant people, following Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
