CHORAL  INTROIT         O Lord, Throughout These Forty Days — David Ashley White

CALL TO WORSHIP

ONE:   Welcome home to the embrace of God’s love that will not let us go.

ALL:    We have come to celebrate the height, breadth, and depth of God’s love

    in Jesus Christ.

ONE:    A love that brings wholeness and healing,

ALL :   A love that is not satisfied with half-truths or evasion,

ONE:    A love that confronts evil and injustice head on,

ALL:    A love that accepts the despised and unlovely,

ONE:    A love that stayed faithful to God all the way to the Cross.

 OUR COMMON PRAYER (unison)

Loving God, we have squandered many of  the gifts you have lavished on us: gifts of creation, gifts of friendship,  gifts of trust, gifts of family, gifts of time. Our choices have  separated us from your love. We  have lived for the moment, ignoring our larger goals and intentions. Yet, when  we turn our hearts to you, you still welcome us home. Let us rejoice in  worship, the family celebration you provide for us. Rejoicing in your  generosity, may we be equipped to share your love with those in  need: sharing peace-bringing  love with those in pain of mind and body,  empathic love with those who have  suffered loss; tough love with the  powerful and oppressive, practical love with those who hunger and thirst. We pray in the  name of your love incarnate, Jesus Christ. Amen.
