CALL TO WORSHIP                      Ecclesiastes 3:1–8

One: There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:

All: There is a time for birth and another for death,

One: There is a time to plant and another to reap,

All: There is a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to destroy and another to     build,

One: There is a time to cry and another to laugh, a time to mourn and another to     dance,

All: There’s a time to forget and a time to remember, a time to embrace and a     time to refrain,

One: There is a time to search and a time to give up, a time to hold on and another to     let go,

All: There is a time to rip out and another to mend, a time to shut up and be     silent and a time to speak up,

One: There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.

OPENING PRAYER

God of all times and places, you wipe away our tears and call us to care for one another. Give us ears to hear your Word to us today, eyes to see your gifts, hearts to embrace all creation, and hands to serve you every day of our lives.  We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

QUESTIONS OF LIFE and FAITH

How far are we to go in allowing people to abuse us?

Isn’t what Jesus asks of us excessive and unrealistic?

Does Jesus urge us to give indiscriminately?
