Breakfast with Santa

Only ONE week left. Please sign up today if you plan to attend our annual Breakfast and Picture With Santa event on Saturday, Dec. 1. This is a free and fun beginning to the Advent Season. Come to Fellowship Hall from 8:30-10 a.m. and have a delicious French toast breakfast, make a simple ornament for the tree as a gift to Baby Jesus, and have your child’s picture taken with Santa. Each family will receive a JPEG of the best photo as well as a print copy. See the sign-up poster on the board in Fellowship Hall today!

Caroling at nursing home Sunday, Dec. 2, 3 p.m.

Families will meet at the entrance of Elderwood at Birchwood nursing home and walk around together to sing Christmas carols to the residents! Sign up on the bulletin board in Fellowship Hall or downstairs in the Sunday School area if you would like to join us. The address of the nursing home is 4800 Bear Road  Liverpool, NY 13088. Sunday School families are encouraged to attend, if able, as it is a physical expression of our “giving” theme this winter, but all are welcome.

Men’s Club Holiday Sale

Stop at the Liverpool Methodist Men table in Fellowship Hall on Sunday December 9th and look over the items for sale, including hand-made wood crafts and long sleeve, blue denim shirts with a “church with the purple doors” logo.  They make excellent Christmas gifts.  Proceeds benefit Men’s Club projects

Community memorial service – Dec. 7

Liverpool First UMC will host an ecumenical service of remembrance on Dec. 7  at 7:30 p.m. This is an annual memorial service for loved ones in the community that have passed away during the year, coordinated by Maurer Funeral Home and the Liverpool Clergy Association.

Church Advent celebration – Dec 9

Mark your calendars now for the afternoon of December 9th.  Beginning at 2 p.m., there will be something for everyone:  crafts for the children, decorating the tree in Fellowship Hall, a covered dish meal (dessert and beverage provided), and an old-fashioned carol sing followed by going outside to light the love lights.  The Evangelism and Member Care Commission along with Sara Bailey and Christian Ed. and the Outreach Commission are making plans for a great way to get into the Christmas spirit with your family and friends here at Liverpool First.

Christmas Eve Family Service – 5 p.m.

This service is family oriented and all children are welcome to participate. Please sign up on the bulletin board downstairs or in Fellowship Hall if your family plans to attend. The service will walk us through the nativity story as children act out the scene in costume. No lines or parts will need to be memorized. It will be a simple, fun, and worship filled service. There is a brief rehearsal after Sunday School on Dec. 23. Families will meet downstairs in the Sunday School gathering space at 10:45 a.m. We would love for you to be at rehearsal but if you cannot attend, we have plenty of costumes for everyone and your child can still be a part of the service on Christmas Eve!

Concert for Senior Ministries – Dec. 11

The Senior Ministries Group invites everyone age 55 and older to attend a concert by the New Horizons Community Choir on Tuesday, Dec. 11 beginning at 1 p.m.  A coffee and dessert reception will be served in Fellowship Hall following the performance. Please call Kathy and Paul Kulba at 638-1324 to reserve a place. There is no charge for this event, but reservations are needed for planning purposes.

Just in Time for Christmas Church Bake Sale – Dec. 23

Calling all those who love to bake or love to eat! The Dinner/Fund-raising Committee is sponsoring our final event of this year with a “Just in Time for Christmas” Church-wide Bake Sale. It will be held around the Christmas tree in festive Fellowship Hall after all 3 services on Cantata Sunday, Dec. 23. Please consider donating to and attending this sale.  We are seeking donations of Christmas cookies of all kinds, muffins, quick breads, tarts, pies, cakes, candies, jams and jellies…your “special” Christmas treats!  Items will be for sale by the pound or piece. Please see the SIGN-UP in Fellowship Hall if you plan to donate a goodie to this event. This will help with the planning. New this year: we will have a few “gently used” Holiday-decorated tins in which to pack your goodies.  (If you have a tin to donate, please leave in the Library as soon as possible.)  Also new this year: we are accepting “stocking stuffers” as donations to sell.  If you have a small craft to donate that would sell between $1-2 each, please sign up on the poster as well. Thanks to all!

Chat with Pastor Beth

Pastor Beth would love to get to know you better, and talk about your hopes and dreams for Liverpool First UMC. She has posted more times to get together for a chat. Sign up for a time to talk – here at the church office, at your home, out to eat, or drop in to weekly Open Hours at Café 407 (Wednesdays, 3 p.m.-6 p.m., no appointment needed.) Sign-ups are on the bulletin board outside her office.

Volunteer opportunity

Operation Southern Comfort is building a house for Danielle, in Arabi, Louisiana. The team finished the roof and windows in October, and the next steps inside are plumbing and wiring. If they can get those things accomplished before mid-January, travelers from LeMoyne College and SUNY Oswego will be able to finish the inside. We’re looking for experienced plumbers and electricians to go down and help us. Operation Southern Comfort will provide lodging, food and materials. Anyone interested please contact Norm Andrzejewski – 315-559-9413 or normandrzejewski@gmail.com.

Tax preparation information

Some members of our congregation rely upon the free income tax preparation services provided by the AARP at the Liverpool Public Library. Because of a shortage of volunteers, the AARP will not offer this service in Liverpool in 2013. Tax preparation will still be offered at the Baldwinsville Public Library, the Onondaga Public Library in North Syracuse and at other locations. Reservations for the sites will fill up faster than usual, so when notices of the services begin appearing early next year, don’t wait to sign up.
